About Us

Owned and operated by Executive Chef Lawrence Suen and his family, the House of Hunan offers customers the exotic, varied flavors of Asia—and more.

Location, Location, Location: We’ve Got Two!

With two Northeast Ohio locations, The House of Hunan is a short drive from just about anywhere.

Chef Suen’s flagship restaurant near the Fairlawn Town Center, at 2717 West Market Street in Fairlawn, recently celebrated more than 30 years of business with a full remodel that included the addition of an updated sushi bar and full-service main bar.

The newest location, in Medina, can be found on the historic square. In fact, the Medina location is unlike anywhere you’ve ever eaten before. The front of the restaurant opens to a lounge where you can feel the outdoor breeze wafting in on balmier days and nights.

Sushi, Chinese, Japanese, Thai Cuisine, and More

With more than 100 items on the lunch and dinner menus, guests can choose between a variety of dishes that include Thai, Chinese, and Japanese offerings. Whether it’s the American-style flavors you crave, the exotic and complex nuances of curry, or the spicy-hot taste of Szechuan-style, the House of Hunan can please any palate.

Impressive sushi bars at all three locations offer a wide variety of sushi, sashimi, futamaki, and maki rolls for both lunch and dinner. The House of Hunan’s ongoing lunch special allows guests to choose any three rolls for just $14.

Diners searching for healthier options should consider the Grilled Favorites or Vegetarian sections of the House of Hunan menu. There you’ll find a variety of options that are as delicious and full of flavor and texture as they are healthy. As always, since every dish is made to order, the chefs will modify any selection to meet your dietary needs.

Insider’s Tip: If you don’t know how to use chopsticks but always wanted to learn, a quick lesson by a member of the gracious House of Hunan wait staff will have you on your way to authentically enjoying the flavors of Chef Suen’s innovative cuisine in no time. But if you’re feeling a little intimidated by the idea of balancing your beef and broccoli on two tiny wooden spears, you can always grab a fork instead.

Cocktails, Wine, Beer, and Happy Hour Specials

A full bar at House of Hunan features the latest in cocktail innovations, but it’s the extensive wine list that really impresses. A member of the staff can help you select the perfect blend to accompany your meal. Happy hour specials are available from 4-6 p.m. daily.
